“It was definitely a pass,” Gary Harris proclaimed. “And I’m sticking to it.”
Harris cut along the baseline with less than three minutes to play and flew in for the dunk. But he lost control of the basketball, which then took a fortuitous path from near the rim to Nikola Jokic in the right corner.
Jokic buried the 3-pointer that put the Nuggets ahead for good against defending champion Golden State, the capper on a week filled with thrillers against some of the NBA’s best teams. And Denver saved its best performance for Saturday night, clawing back from a double-digit second-half deficit to pull away with a 115-108 victory in front of the largest crowd to ever watch a game at the Pepsi Center.
“It’s just a belief,” Nuggets coach Michael Malone said of his team’s ability to consistently compete against the Warriors. “I think our guys believe in what we’re doing. They believe in each other. They believe in themselves.”
He’s really hit his stride lately and the new-look offense has been big time. Coach Mike Malone said he’s going to call fewer plays to open things up for guys like Big Honey. Maybe it’s that or maybe it’s because he switched to women’s deodorant, but Jokic has averages of 19.2 points, 11.2 boards, 8.6 dimes and 1.6 treys over his last five since he said it’s switching to a different deodorant. He’s been every bit of the player his fantasy owners were hoping for with top-20 value and an upward trend.
